Who better to ask to sample your new sports magazine than a renowned and well-established sports columnist? Such was the mindset at Sports Illustrated, as that magazine’s suits mailed the offered copies to famed Washington Post-Times Herald scribe Shirley Povich. These (6) editions include (4) with “SAMPLE COPY” stampings on the cover. Each has a mailing label listing Povich as the intended recipient. With covers and pages intact, the issues average (EX) quality and include: 1.) December 27, 1954 (Swiss village on cover, handwritten notations on index page); 2.) January 31, 1955 (Jill Kinmont on cover); 3.) March 7, 1955 (Joseph Cameron on cover); 4.) September 12, 1955 (Wilkinson on cover); 5.) October 31, 1955 (Pamela Phillips on cover); and 6.) January 7, 1957 (Bobby Morrow on cover).
